Before Polestar became its own electric performance brand, it did something wonderfully different.

It took Volvo's already handsome V60 wagon, stuffed a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six under the hood, recalibrated the all-wheel-drive system, added Öhlins dampers, massive Brembo brakes, a full-flow stainless exhaust and created one of the most interesting performance wagons of the modern era. This is the 2015 Volvo V60 Polestar. And more than a decade later, these cars are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Better yet, 2015 puts this car firmly in the sweet spot: the increasingly coveted early Polestar era with Volvo's charismatic turbocharged inline-six. A combination that disappeared far too soon.

There is something about this generation of Polestar that the spec sheet can't completely explain.

The turbocharged inline-six has character. The Öhlins suspension is real performance hardware. The Brembos are enormous. The exhaust actually sounds like something. And all of it lives underneath the body of an elegant Volvo wagon that can still haul groceries, luggage, dogs, kids or whatever else life throws in the back.

That's what makes these cars so special today.

Volvo doesn't build anything quite like this anymore. Nobody really does.

This isn't simply an older fast Volvo.

It's from a fascinating moment in Volvo history when Polestar was taking Swedish family cars and turning them into genuinely serious performance machines. 345 horsepower. Turbocharged inline-six.
